Photographing a match at Austria's oldest football club
On 23 August 2024, I photographed a match at Austria's oldest football club. It was an interesting experience and I got some good pictures. Football Club celebrated its 130th birthday shortly before the match. The club currently plays in the second division and has a long tradition. Unfortunately, the game against Floridsdorfer AC was lost 2:0.
I took the photos in the series with my Nikon Z8. I use the lens 70-20 2.8 S
Sports photography is always an experience. I photographed the windsurfer at Lake Garda. I was still using my Nikon d3500 SLR camera with the AF-P Nikkor 70-300mm 1:4.5-6-3GED kit lens
Kit lenses always have a bad reputation. Nevertheless, I was able to take amazing pictures like this one with this lens.
In sports photography, it’s all about capturing the perfect moment. The action moves incredibly fast, and you only have a split second to snap that decisive shot—whether it’s a goal or a spectacular leap.
Anticipation and timing are crucial. The better you understand the sport, the easier it is to predict when key moments will unfold. Fast autofocus, a high shutter speed, and burst mode are essential tools for freezing those fleeting moments in just the right way.
